It’s National Nurses’ Week in the United States beginnng May 6, which is National Nurses’ Day, and ending May 12, which is Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
You might recognize Florence Nightingale as the founder of modern nursing. The shy but determined woman gained unsolicited fame during the Crimean War, where, by improving sanitation and living conditions, the “Lady of the Lamp” reduced the death rate among hospitalized British Soldiers at Scutari, the British Base Hospital in Constantinople, Turkey by two-thirds.
