Healthy adults should get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night, according to the National Sleep Foundation. But nearly one out of three (30%) of working adults in the United States sleep 6 hours or less per day, considered “short sleep duration.”
Working a night shift increases the risk that you won’t get enough sleep: A full 44 percent of people who work night shifts don’t get enough sleep. If you really want to lose sleep, become a night-shift worker in transportation and warehousing or health-care and social assistance, 69.7% and 52.3% of whom, respectively, sleep 6 hours or less.
